Villiger was founded in 1888 by Jean Villiger in Pfeffikon, Lucerne, and is still owned by the Villiger family. Cafe Creme was launched in 1963 by Henri Wintermans and has been a Scandinavian Tobacco Group brand since 1996. Moods was launched by Dannemann in 1994 and is described by its maker as the first aromatic cigarillo.
How cigarillos are measured
Cigars and cigarillos are measured differently from cigarettes. Length is given in millimetres or inches, but diameter is given as a ring gauge — the diameter in sixty-fourths of an inch. A ring gauge of 32 means 32/64 of an inch. The conversion is fixed, so any ring gauge converts to millimetres.

Wrapper, tip and construction
Three build details separate one cigarillo from another, and all three are listed on every product page.
Wrapper. A natural leaf wrapper is a single sheet of whole tobacco leaf. A homogenised wrapper, often shortened to HTL, is made from reconstituted tobacco pressed into a sheet. Natural leaf varies in colour and vein pattern between individual cigarillos; homogenised wrapper is uniform.
Tip. A tipped cigarillo has a filter or mouthpiece at the end. An untipped one is tobacco along its whole length. Both appear across the brands in this category.
Filler. Machine-made cigarillos use short filler — cut tobacco rather than whole leaves folded lengthwise. This is what allows machine production at this size.
Flavour groups

How cigarillos are packed
Packaging here is more varied than in cigarettes. Common formats are the flat tin of 10 or 20, the cardboard pack of 5, 10 or 20, and the box of 50 or 100. Some lines come in individual foil-sealed tubes. Tins are resealable and resist crushing; cardboard packs are lighter. Neither affects the product inside. Storage
Most machine-made European cigarillos are dry-cured, which means they are finished dry rather than humidified and do not require a humidor. Keeping a dry-cured cigarillo in a humidified box raises its moisture content above the level it was made for. Room temperature, out of direct sunlight, in the original tin or pack, is the condition these products are built for.
